Reflections on Optimism: by Orly Wahba

Oftentimes people associate optimists with blind idealists who fail to see reality and instead put their heads in the sand. I have to disagree.

Practice optimism in your daily comings and goings. Optimism isn’t being unrealistic, it’s understanding that when things head south they aren’t as final as they may oftentimes appear. Think of a struggle you are currently facing that seems insurmountable. Now try and see it through the lens of optimism. Write down three things about that problem that you can do to solve it, three things you can learn from it, or three ways to make it manageable. Keep in mind: the only limit is your imagination.

Kindness Across America by Joel Malard

One sunny August morning, author Joel Malard set out from his home in Fremont, California, to begin a 20-day train journey across the length of the United States and back again. With him, he carried a notebook and one question he would ask over 45 strangers he encountered on his journey: What is kindness?

To celebrate Joel’s journey, we too will be passing his book from one hand to another. I will be mailing a copy of the book out to my friend, Jason in Vancouver, Washington and from there it will continue to make its way around the world. Feel free to highlight in the book, sign your name and leave any comments before mailing it to the next person on the list. If you’re interested in taking part in this fun experiment, email Jason at jason@lifevestinside.com Subject: Kindness Across America.
