Motivation Monday

Life Vest Inside has had the very good fortune of finding writers willing to share their Kindness Stories with us. One of our special recurring writers is David Jablinowitz, Op-Ed Editor at Jerusalem Post, who is famous for his “bus stories.”

The Compromise

Sometimes a soldier is home during the week, getting some days off, and then has to go back to serving over the weekend.
One such soldier was heading for his bus late this afternoon. Nearby, an older woman was carrying some packages, which then fell, and some groceries went flying.
The soldier runs to help. It turns out that in the time that he was scrambling for the groceries and went to a store to get some sturdier bags, he missed his bus.
The woman calls a taxi. Insists that the soldier take the taxi. Waits for the taxi to come. It was going to be a drive of at least a couple of hours. It was going to cost a sizable amount of money.
Woman insists that she pay. Gives the driver her credit card information. Soldier doesn’t want to accept payment from the woman. The taxi driver is enjoying the negotiation.
Then the driver steps in: “I’ve got a compromise,” he says. Looks at the woman: “You and I can split this.”
Soldier still refuses. He finally agrees that each of them pays a third.
Woman gives the soldier her phone number. “You’d better call me when you get there to tell me that you arrived on time. That’s also part of the deal. If you have a problem, I’ll speak to your commander.”

Kindness Quote

When we let fear be our master, we cannot be happy and free as a butterfly. But when we choose to trust the journey and embrace love and joy, we are free to fly.
